Settlers of Catan Movie in the Works? Gail Katz Acquires TV and Film Rights
This bit of news has us screaming for ore.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Gail Katz has acquired the TV and film rights to this popular strategy board game, which may be even more exciting than acquiring the longest road. Katz, who is known for producing such movies as Air Force One and The Perfect Storm, was introduced to the game by her kids who are currently in college.
Settlers of Catan, created by Klaus Teuber, was first released in Germany in 1995. Since then it has been published in 30 languages with over 15 million games being sold internationally and has been adapted into several video games. It’s branched out into four different official game base expansions and it is also available as an app for Apple and Android.
Though attempts to transition boards games have been hit (Clue) or miss (Battleship), it’s safe to say that if this were to be adapted into a movie, gamers all over the world will be giddy.
