Harold Ramis, the actor, writer and director whose films include Stripes, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day and Caddyshack, has died at the age of 69 from complications related to autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a condition he had for the past few years. According to his representatives at United Talent Agency, Ramis died Monday morning in his Chicago-area home.

For more than 40 years, Ramis helped shape the comedy world writing, directing, and acting in some of the most definitive comedic films since the 70’s. His work catapulted the careers of many other comedic legends including John Belushi in Ramis’s film Animal House, which he wrote. His work in Ghostbusters, Stripes, Caddyshack and Groundhog Day, all cult-comedy favorites, showcased the comedic genius of Bill Murray.
